A fork of Rural Dictionary
Noun. NB (also Nb, nb, and the phonetic "enby") is an abbreviation for "non-binary" and denotes a spectrum of gender identities that do not follow the traditional gender binary expressions of "male" and "female". NB is often used attributively to describe people who identify as non-binary and is also often used by those individuals to describe themselves. **Important: NB is NOT to be confused with NB, which has its own listing; that's right, they're homonyms. Good times. NB, The gender identity, is rarely expressed with periods, in part to differentiate it from the more commonly punctuated latin abbreviation for π―π°π΅π¦ π£π¦π―π¦ but also as a matter of visual preference and in keeping with general LGBTQ nomenclature.
Urban Dictionary has not yet responded to my complaint regarding their existing definitions of "NB"; instead, this important category of gender identity and its distinction is being ignored as if it doesn't matter. How very interesting.
Used in text or messaging among people from Northern Ireland, it stands for No Bother pronounced as "No Baw" it's used in similarly to how "no problem" or "no sweat" is used.
