There is a difference between questioning the legitimacy/intentions of all sides and angles of a claim, and defending rape or a rapist, though some, if not many feminists would try to silence any male that doesn't see it their way without questioning anything. Questioning the legitimacy/intentions of all sides of a claim also includes questioning the accused.
Sometimes a claim is made with an intent to lead people to make assumptions about somebody that aren't based on reality, other times the claim is close to being exact reality, and in between all of this is a gray area where someone on one of the sides isn't going to be happy with the verdict, no matter what it is.
