Friendzone

The "friendzone" is the position of a person who removed from eligibility for romantic or sexual consideration due to an existing friendship with the object of their desire. The term applies to a range of situations: On the innocent end of the spectrum, awkwardness, timing, or fear of losing the friendship may keep a person in the friendzone. There those who step forwards to confess, to be rejected and told remaining friends is more desirable. They must either enter the friendzone, or end all contact. Or, the focus of the desire may be aware of the romantic interest, and purposefully ignore, discourage, and downplay it to prevent the friendship from changing. At the pernicious end, either person in the dynamic may use the friendzone to take advantage. A person with sexual interest may try to use the friendzone to gain intimate access under the guise of false friendship. Or the recipient of affection may purposefully encourage the feelings in order to get benefits, like attention, favors, or money (aka "simping") It is challenging to shift a person's view from platonic to romantic, so becoming "trapped in the friendzone" is seen as a difficult fate to change and few successfully "escape the friendzone" to enter a relationship. The term can be parodied in other situations where a person is rendered romantically inviable due to the type of existing relationship, such as "brother/sister-zoned" (i.e. the object of the feelings views the other person like a sibling)

A: "Did you hear? Tom finally escaped the friendzone and now he and Claire are dating!" B: Took him long enough! They may have been friends since middle school, but he's been pining after her for the last five years!"

FriendZone

The cross faze period between two people where the relationship could go one of two ways: Total platonic friendship or Romantic partnership. Usually the former occurs, regardless of whether the two people are attracted to each other or not due to the high school mentality that risking a friendship is a risk they can't bare to make. Two people might be great for each other, but they are either to awkward or stubborn about the mention of idea with each other, often due to pressure from friends that they would be just "perfect for each other". This happens to both girls and boys, alike.

Deborah: Who do you think I'd be good with? Alex: How about Henry? Deborah: Everybody says that, I don't-I don't get it. Alex: You two would be great together, though. Deborah: Maybe. But he's such a good friend and I really don't want to put all my eggs in one basket...I don't even know him that well. Alex: Who said you had to know him? That's what dates are for! Deborah: I'd honestly much rather just remain in the FriendZone.

Friendzoned

When the person you like doesn't like you back, but it's worse. This person treats you as a friend, so even though you every time you hang out with this person, you want to make out with them and stick your tongue down their throat, you have to resist because you might lose them as a friend. This phrase came from the show Friends. Joey told Ross that Rachel likes him, but will never like like him. That he is in this 'friend zone.'

"Dude, I just spent hours texting her trying to make her feel better ever since Pete broke up with her and you know what she told me? 'Why can't I find a guy like you?'" "Sorry, man. You're totally FRIENDZONED!

Friendzone

It's the point when a girl decides that you're her friend, you're no longer a dating option. You become this complete non-sexual entity in her eyes, like a brother, or a lamp.

Guy 1: "Man I want her back!" Guy 2: "Then why don't you ask her out again?" Guy 1: "She said she just wants to be friends." Guy 2 "Damn, she just put you in the friendzone! I feel bad for you bro."
