de-voted Aligning yourself with a cause so as to let those representing the cause dictate your actions thereby abdicating your "vote" or personal will for that of the cause.

Spouses devote their lives to each other and the well-being of family and finance. Those devoted to causes should differentiate the cause from those who temporarily represent it.
