prep

Real preps for one thing do NOT wear clothes from Hollister, Abercrombie, or American Eagle. If they did wear those brands then they would be made fun/looked down upon by their other prep friends. We preps wear nothing but Polo, Lacoste, J.Crew, Lilly, Juicy coture, designer jeans that sell for no less than $150 a pair, North Faces, cute loafers and slides, Rainbow sandals, and only shop at Neiman and Saks as we like to call them. Preps also do not wear loads of make-up, we like to keep our look simple and natural looking without overdoing it. We preps attend either East coast boarding schools or go to elite private schools near our homes and then ususally end up going to top of the line colleges, not because we are smart enough, but because our parents are either a member of the board of trustees or are willing to donate large sums to our desired school. Us preppy girls do not appear to be sluts becasue we dress so conservative and sweetly, but ask any private school boy and they will tell you that the parties (that kids throw on weekends when their parents go to some tropical island for their monthly trip)are filled with tons of alcahol and are spent at enormous lavish homes are crazy. And yes, although the good majority of us may have an eating disorder, who cares? at least we look good. All preps either play tennis, lacrosse, squash, field hockey, golf, ride, sail, or are on the crew team. We vacation on Cape Cod (the rich, nice parts), Nantucket, or Martha's Vineyard. We usually get cars when we turn sixteen, many driving BMW's, Mercedes, Audis, and Volvos. We go on many vacations and have been to more countries in Europe and Islands by the age of 18 than most people will ever go to in their whole life time. Not all preps are ditzy, we are often very focused on our school because good grades is also a part of the on going competition to out-do each other. And not all of us preppy girls are blonde, although a good majority either are or dye their hair. Boy preps are usually laid-back and have shaggy hair that they NEVER gel and do not wear jewlery other than sailor's not bracelets or livestrongs, but those are like sooo last summer. Being a prep is a lifestyle, just becasue you may wear polo or own a Burberry scarf but dont go to the country club or play lacrosse means that you would not meet the standards of most true preps across the country, or at least on the East Coast.

Prep Girl #1- "What are you doing wearing those jeans from American Eagle?!" Prep Girl #2-"Well they are the only ones that fit me because I just lost a few pounds. But when I go to Nantucket on Friday I'm getting a new pair of True Religion's or Citizen's." Prep Girl #1- "Ohh, well they do look good with that new Marc Jacobs jacket and your Gucci loafers. And those Dior glasses are extremly cute!" Prep guy walking by to prep girl #1- "Hey awesome party in your pool house last night. I got so wasted... we should chill together at Choate next year."

prep

A prep is one of very higher middle class or high class. Usually attending private school or east coast boarding school living in some of the richest neighborhoods in the united states. Although those living in suburban areas think they are "preps" because they shop at aeropostale, abercrombie & fitch, espress, old navy and american eagle. Believe me true preps don't shop there. Although they may own some clothing preps usually shop at polo, lily pullitzer, lacoste, j.crew, saks, nordstroms and so on, only those of higher classes would be able to afford such things. They wear pearls, ribbons, jewelery from tiffany's, plaid, designer purses. Traveling during the summer to nantucket, martha's vineyard...or around the world to different countries.Plays lacrosse, field hockey, crew team, tennis. And their parents pretty much make $250,000 + driving some of the most expensive cars around.

preps DONT wear aero, ae and a&f it pisses me off when people think their preppy wearing it. your NOT preppy...get it through your heard, your just a POSER.

1) Life of A Prep *Usually from the East Coast and from Old Money *Attends an East Coats Prep School *Usually dresses in anything from Ralph Lauren to Chanel. Would not be caught dead in a wal-mart. *Cares about their appearance and tries to look as nice as possible. *Cares deeply about their reputation, would never be caught doing something slutty/trashy *Gets good grades and is planning or already attends an IVY. *Is occasionally bitchy *A prep isn't in your face about how much money she has 2) A Prep is NOT *A cheerleader or jock. A prep may be a cheerlead or jock but just because someone is a cheerleader or jock doesn't mean they're a prep. *Someone who wears American Eagle, Abercrombie or anything else that can't be bought in Nordstom's, Sak's or Neiman's.

1) Life of a prep Madeline: So, where are you applying? Parker: Princeton, Harvard, Brown... all the usual Madeline: Alison got accepted early descion to Princeton. Did you see the Aston Martin she got as a congratulation gift? Parker: Yeah, it's pretty nice. 2) A Prep is not Ashlee: Like, did I show you my new Juicy Couture Bag? It was $350. I bet you wish your dad could spend that kind of money on you. Jessica: Well atleast I have a nice car! My 1999 VW Bug is so much cooler than your 1996 Honda Civic. Ashlee: Well... well I've slept with more guys than you have! Jessica: No you haven't! I am way more slutty than you!

Preps are from rich families, academically gifted, and destined to make a lot of money just like their parents. It is ridiculous to say that they are 'ditzes' and 'sluts'. You would not make it into a prep school if you were either of these things. And preps do not wear American Eagle. They shop at Neiman Marcus. Also, it's not like preps want to be anything else. Whenever somebody comes to a prep school dressed ghetto/goth/hooker, they are either immediately ostracized and made fun of, or more commonly they prep it up too. ;) Also, it is ridiculous for people who pierce holes through their lips and noses just to fit in, to call US posers.

Come to La Jolla Country Day, where we don't care that a bunch of goths wearing dog collars and chains, in remedial 4th grade math, make fun of us! Prep and proud.

prep

A Young student in high school or college who: 1. Performs well academically 2. Plays sports such as Crew, Tennis, Golf, or Lacrosse 3. Comes from an established "Old money" background 4. Is favoured by their school, church, and other local establishments 5. Is good looking 6. Went to/ goes to preparatory school Of course, a prep need not have ALL these qualities but many do. A common misconception about preps is that they consist only of the Patrician New England "Old stock" establishment. While this is generally true to a large extent this is not to exclude the types of preps who come from the Southern and Southwestern regions of the US (who more closely resemble the "popular" definition of preps but we'll get into that in a minute). Students who fit the definition of "preppy" can be found in any part of the world, including the upper circles of Europe, and Latin America. Preps have historically been White Anglo-Saxon Protestant, however, this criteria has somewhat changed in recent decades of racial/ethnic integration. Preps represent all sides of the political spectrum, the more liberal ones being found in Connecticut or Massachusetts, or the more conservative ones being found in Georgia or Texas. Preps vary in their attitude towards others and range from being completely condescening to being all inclusive. The majority of preps are fairly indifferent to those outside of their own type, usually not out of snobbery, but out of their tendency to be more private as individuals. Perhaps the biggest debate involving preps today is the definition of "prephood". The New England preps often state the the more common definition of prep defined by people who wear Hollister, Abercrombie & Fitch, etc. is a false construction, whereas the "true prep" actually wears brands like J Crew, LL Bean, Eddie Bauer, and Ralph Lauren. Whlie a true prep is more inclined to match the latter definition, there is not a rigid line between types and many preps actually wear a mixture of the two styles, wearing the established brands for school or church and the newer brands in casual settings. Of course, it is important to note that true prephood is NEVER defined by clothes alone. Finally, preps are often seen as conformists, but in reality, this perception comes from their emphasis on constructing highly esteemed careers and willingness to accept the concept of the "establishment" as an inevitability. Thus many preps aspire to go into business, medicine or politics later in life.

I pretty much match the definition of a prep and am pretty proud of it. =)
