take it to the tapes

In a sporting event, when a play is in question, they "Take it to the tapes", or "Bring it to the tapes" for official review. The same applies to everyday life when something is in question. Be it an actor in a movie, a past sports score, or anything, really. See Google, Wikipedia, or IMDB. Very similar to Roll The Tapes.
