"Leave of abstinence" is a term used to describe when a person stops their voluntary restraint from indulging in bodily activities that are widely experienced as giving pleasure. Most frequently, abstinence refers to sexual abstinence, or abstention from narcotics, alcohol, tobacco, caffeine or food.
Man speaking: "My friend abstains from sex, but now he says he wants to get laid, so he's on a "leave of abstinence."
A term used to describe the African-American accent. It is derived from the southern accent of the United States. It originated from the 16th through to the 19th centuries as Africans were transported to the colonies in North and South America to be sold as slaves. In North America, the sounds of the original African languages merged with the sounds of the southerners who taught the slaves to speak English.
