the wire

Before the television show, "the wire" was another term for "the phone". In some areas talking "the wire" is referring to talking to someone through the glass in prison

Single, usually cylindrical, elongated strands of drawn metal that nerds accumulate, with computer/musical/etc equipment, and exhibit in attempts to represent their level of nerdiness.
