Olaf

The first name Olaf is composed of the Old Norse syllables anu – "the ancestor" – and leifr – "the descendant". It therefore means "descendant of the ancestor" and was used as a royal name, especially in medieval Norway, as the syllable "anu" referred to a divinely revered or special ancestor.
