Grindcore, often shortened to Grind, is a genre of extreme music that developed in the mid-1980's. It draws on the heaviest and most abrasive of music styles, including Death Metal, Thrash Metal, Hardcore Punk, Industrial Music and Noise Music. Grindcore bands are commonly made up of a simple vocalist, guitarist, bassist, drummer line-up. Grindcore songs are typically short, rarely lasting more than 2 to 2 and a 1/2 minutes long, with many lasting only seconds. Guitars are downtuned, heavily distorted and usually only played with simple, short, repetitive riffs, or without any consistent riffs at all, sometimes being completely improvised and played randomly up and down the neck. Bass playing is for the most part the same. Drumming is chaotic, sometimes deliberately out of time, and characterised by the use of blastbeats (look it up). Vocals are usually screamed, growled or barked, but unlike distinct vocal styles from other genres such as Deathgrowl and Screamo, which are still quite abrasive and sometimes inhuman-sounding but intended to convey some understandable meaning, Grindcore vocals are often completely unintelligible, with no audible distinction between vowels and consonants, syllables, and even whole words, with some of the more extreme vocalists performing several lines in one long scream, with no syllabilic definition and only slight pitch shifts to indicate different words. The Birmingham, UK band Napalm Death, started in 1985/6, is widely accredited with being the first Grindcore band, and their debut album Scum is regarded by most as the first Grindcore album. Since then it has diversified into many subgenres, often defined by lyrical themes than musical differences, such as Goregrind, Pornogrind, and the electronic offshoot Electrogrind.
You go to the Grind show yesterday? Johnny: Grindcore is nothing but glorified noise. Jimmy: Who made you the final word on what music is and isn't?
The melodic equivilent to prison rape. Its melodies are the musical genius of a downsyndrome patient. Here are the positions: Grind Core Positions. Vocalist: Their job is to get raped, and for their voice to resemble the sound of such, For a good substitute, a Pig could be used in place for the vocalist. Guitarist: Their Job is maybe the easiest, They only have to take a guitar and punch it on various places on the fretboard, also, the same sound is to take a pregnant woman and to psh her down stairs. Bass: Open cords. Just basically hit it. Drums: This one maybe quite challengeing (diffuculty rating: 1st grade) The grindcore drummer has to be suffering of epilepsy for having a seizure on the drums is the only way to get the best sound. But heres what they do; hit the snare drum at various times, rapidly, but not melodically. For the bass, just stomp every third of a second. and cymbals, just whenever you can. With those steps you can explore the world of grindcore in no time!
James: Hey Im Going to see waking the cadaver today they're a grindcore band! Mike: Oh cool, Id come but im not a manic depressive so I wont have to shoot myself. have fun though!
A form of music that actually originated from Crust and punk. Some originators of the genre were Napalm Death, Anal Cunt and Bolt Thrower. Grindcore draws some influences from death metal, jazz, hardcore, and just about everything. Grindcore can be characterized by odd time signatures, frequent change of tempo, complicated Jazz influenced guitar riffs and chords, complicated, extremely fast drumming (Often using blastbeats). Modern day grindcore is extremely different than its roots. While old grindcore was simpler, newer grindcore bands are insanely talented and use alot of innovations in their music. Alot of grindcore has an experimental quality as well. Grindcore is a very innovative and non-cliche genre, and seeks to be set apart from trendy Metalcore and Hardcore bands. Yet somehow since grindcore has no scene of its own, Grindcore bands are mismatched at hardcore or metal shows. (Leaving alot of bewildered stares on the cookie-cutter scene kid's faces.) Also, there is no grindcore scene, and one cannot "be grindcore."

A style of music developed from 80s hardcore. Pioneered by such bands as Napalm Death, and Carcass among others. The music is characterized with very fast guirar riffs, and even faster drums, together with incomprehensible vocals (Some bands use high pitched screaming, some use low pitched growling). Contrary to popular belief, Grindcore IS NOT METAL. Some bands are, if they are mixing in elements of Death, Black, or other forms of metal, but Grindcore itself is not metal, since it evolved from punk music, and not any style of metal.

A genre of music supposedly combining the hardcore punk genre and the thrash metal genre. In actual fact it features Muggy, downtuned guitars, over-distorted muggy bass and insane drummers. The vocals sound alot like drunk cavmen attempting kareoke. The shortest song in the world ('You Suffer', by Napalm Death), coming in at just 1.3 seconds is in the genre of Grindcore. Often listened to by the 'toughnut' kids.
Paul: Dude...what the fuck is this music on your iPod? Ben: Oh, thats some shit caleld 'grindcore' that my brother found out about. Paul: It's the worst msuic i have ever heard! Ben: Yeah, James said it sounded like drunken cavenmen attempting kareoke.
Simply put, Punk Rock's answer to Death Metal. You either love it or you hate it. Either way, fans of it won't give a fuck if you do or don't.
