A Doofer can be anything. When you can't think of the name of an object or item just replace the unknown name with doofer and hey presto.
"Margret Wheres thats doofer for the wotsit?"
Refers to any remote control for any electronic device. eg Television, Video Player, DVD Player, hi-fi, etc
Dude have you see the doofer? down the side of the couch?
A derivative of 'That'll do for it' - as in, just the gadget you need to complete a task. Phonetically 'That'll doofer it' - shortened to 'doofer'. It is commonly used today as a lazy substitute for the name of an item you can't remember. A wotsit, thingy, thingamajig etc.
"Could you hand me that doofer?" "I need a doofer to mash potatoes easier"
An ugly outsider with low self-esteem; often used to refer to a foreigner who tries to fit in with the main stream.

A doofer is an object that is given to the actor to use during the rehearsal for a stage production that takes the place of the actual prop.
For example, a block of wood with a piece of tape reading "cell phone" may be given to the actor while the actual prop is being purchased or created. This block of wood would be called a doofer.
