Arpy

A derogatory slur for people from Southern England who speak what they themselves refer to as ‘Received Pronunciation’, a dialect of English that attempts to position itself as the ‘correct’, ‘proper’ or ‘default’ way of speaking Anglo- or British English. The dialect may incorrectly and fallaciously called the ‘Southern’, ‘English’ or ‘British’ accent by outsiders.

It is not to be confused with other terms for southerners, as this term excludes East Angles, Westcountryfolk, Essexfolk, Estuaryfolk, Cockneys, Mockneys, and other non-RP Londoners and Southerners.

Arpy: “Oh, you’re at University? What do you read?”
Non-Arpy: “I read the fucking kebab house menu, you arpy piece of shit.”

Arpy: “I can’t wait for tonight, daddy finally sent the money he promised, so I’m going to live large! What are you doing this evening?”
Non-Arpy: “Scrubbing tables and cleaning toilet bowls because some of us have to work for a living Tarquin, you arpy piece of shit.”
