Guy: MY phone was having bad reception all night, that's why I never answered your call.

Something one says when nothing else can be thought of

Tony: I really enjoyed last night!
Emily: Hmmm...

the idea of thinking something in your head but it coming out of your mouth

Why does she always say hmmmm?

When I don't know how to reply in a conversation or text, I need a filler word to allow time to think of an answer so I say Hmmm. Hmmm is my thinking sound!

DH: Baby, what do you want to do this weekend?
SS: (5 minutes later) Hmmm

When you don't know what to say in s conversation but you have to say something otherwise they will know you are an introvert

Jhonny:- You know vanilla is the best flavour of ice cream
Dani:- Hmmm
