There are many different types of phobias. A phobia is known as an extreme fear. Here are some examples of common phobias: Claustrophobia – The fear of small spaces like elevators, small rooms and other enclosed spaces. Aerophobia – The fear of flying. Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia – The fear of long words. Believe it or not, it’s real. Androphobia – The fear of men. Usually seen in younger females, but it can also affect adults. Tescophobia - The fear of self check out services especially when left alone. Phobophobia – The fear of fear. The thought of being afraid of objects/situations. Podophobia – The fear of feet. A phobia is a fear of something of a general area - i.e. Arachnophobia is the fear of spiders, not just being afraid of specific spiders like the Black Widow or Tarantula. Phobias can range from slight panic attacks when overwhelmed in a crowd, to not being willfully strong enough to leave your house. Some phobias can be rational or irrational. Phobias can also be caused by a personal experience, such as how I gained a phobia of emotional attachment to people.
