Redbone

Redbone is a person with red undertones in their skin. A person who is a yellow bone has yellow undertones in their skin. If you look closely at their skin you can see the differences. A redbone can be a light-skinned african american or a person of mixed races meaning they have African American in them...mixed with other's ethnic races!

Redbone

A southern slang word that's become popular around the nation. A light-skinned mixed person (black and white). They also have Native American ancestry, giving their skin and hair reddish undertones. A true redbone is all three ethnicities. A yellow bone is a light skinned mixed person. No Native American blood to give the reddish coloring. "Thick" is not a redbone characteristic. The mixture of the three races does make it more likely though; that's why you hear about so many thick redbones. Redbones often inherit the best traits of all three races (good hair, big pretty eyes, and natural womanly curves are all dominant), and are generally, as a "race" unbelieveably good-looking.

Redbone

Red bone and yellow bone came from Louisiana. When the Spaniards invaded Louisiana, their offspring were red skin, mixed hair types, larger lips, and flatter or smaller noses than either of the Spanish or native American people. Then, after France invaded, crosses between "white" and either Spanish or Native American also were red bone. Yellow bone were the "white" people crossed with a red bone. From each, cam what was known as "high yellow bone" or "high red bone". This was a second generation crossed back to a "white" person of color. Several countries were present with skin colors of white, such as France, England, or Nova Scotia people.

That family is definitely redbone, they are too red to be African-American and to brown to be Spanish-American. Same with yellow bone, to light in color to be African-American, but too dark to be of true native country from which "white" colored people came from. Used in the deep south until 1980's.
