A monster disguising itself as a treasure chest/box, frequently found in rpg video games. Mimics are typically high-level enemies, and difficult to beat, but often drop rare or valuable items.
Damn dude, I just spent 20 minutes figuring out how to get to that treasure, and it was just a freaking mimic. Screw that.
A creature with no true form, often takes the form of a treasure chest and attacks adventurers. A mimic can forever obtain a copy of a ally or foe and transform into this copy at will. This form can only be removed by killing it as if you were to kill the actual person/being. A mimic is the best transformite found anywhere. The only way to defeat a mimic is to kill its first form.
wow man, i hate fighting these mimics because i have to kill every single form. how come this one copied so much? he is a great boss in this game

A monster from the game Prey. They can change shape to match anything in their surroundings, like a coffee cup or a trash can. They are considered scarier than the Xenomorph from Alien. This is an achievement since the Xenomorph is freaky as hell.
I was playing prey last night and I couldn's sleep because of those damn mimics.
