Fyi, I am really drunk as I make this entry
FYI is an acronym for "For your information." So, instead of writing "For your information" you would simply write "FYI" to get your point across. (Hence, an acronym) An e-mail may be forwarded and in the content you can write "FYI" and the reader should then scroll down to read the remainder of the e-mail. Can be mistaken for "For your FYI" - this is misuse of acronym.
Proper use: "The can of corn is in the top shelf, FYI." Misuse: "For Your FYI it is our boss's birthday today" - wrong.
The acronym fyi stands for "for your information". Its use is to inform someone about anything and placing the acronym as a starter to a sentence or to end it. e.g. Fyi, I'm not gonna make it tonight, sorry. Hey, fyi, I don't want to watch this movie. I don't think that we're gonna be there on time, fyi. The use of it is not strict and you can form variations on how fyi will be used in a sentence. As long as its meaning doesn't change.

It's quite simple actually. It was originally a shortened version for For Your Information. However, people have made up other things that can stand for FYI. For example "Fuck You Idiot". But, that's a bit pointless if you ask me. Saying the whole thing has a grander effect.
